Presbyterians for Earth Care - Creation needs you more than ever in 2023! PLUS Climate Webinar TOMORROW!

April 2023

The General Assembly of PC(USA) approved
ENV-05 in 2022 that calls "upon the whole Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to reduce our carbon imprint by 25 percent in the next four years." The UN Climate Change Conference COP 27 mitigation decision calls the time we are in a "critical decade of action" on many fronts. If we are to help achieve this goal, Presbyterians for Earth Care has much to do. You can help by becoming a member or renewing your membership.

When you are part of PEC, you add your voice to a national network of Presbyterians and other people of faith who want to make creation care a central concern of the church. You will:
  • be connected with other members in your presbytery and synod by a Regional Representative who will communicate regularly with you.
  • be invited to attend PEC webinars on topics that interest you.
  • hear about earth care advocacy opportunities at PC(USA) and state and national levels.
  • learn more about PEC's Conference at Massanetta Springs, VA, September 20-23, 2023.

Your membership will support a group with a spiritual and Presbyterian foundation that addresses environmental issues and concerns within the Church and in society. You may also choose to volunteer to use your skills and gifts in one of our recently formed committees: Programs, Communications, Organizational Development, and Advocacy. Email
pec@presbyearthcare.org for more information and to volunteer.

We believe that a vibrant and engaged PEC is essential to achieve a livable and sustainable future in this amazing world that God graciously created for us and expects us to protect. Scientists have made clear that urgent action is needed. We believe the Church can make a real difference at this crucial time. Please join at the level you can afford either online
donatenow.networkforgood.org/pecmembership or by mailing a check to: PEC Treasurer, P.O. Box 8041, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

We have a new PEC brochure!  You can download your printable copy -

Urgent climate action can secure a livable future for all — The latest report from the IPCC

Webinar Date: Tuesday, April 11, 2023

Time: 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm EDT (6:30 CDT, 5:30 MDT, 4:30 PDT)

Presenter: Dr. C. Mark Eakin

In March, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the first parts of the Synthesis Report covering the 6th Assessment Report. The IPCC has now spoken even more clearly that we must act urgently to address the climate crisis to stabilize the climate we leave our children. Despite such urgent pleas, most governments continue to move slowly.

This webinar will provide a summary and insights into the latest report and the need for us all to act now to address the climate crisis.

Dr. C. Mark Eakin is a retired oceanographer, having spent over 30 years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He was a contributing author or reviewer of multiple IPCC reports, was Chief Science Advisor for the Sundance- and Emmy- winning film Chasing Coral, and has testified before the US Congress. He is a ruling elder serving at Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church in Kensington, MD, in the National Capital Presbytery, and the Presbyterians for Earth Care.
