GreenFaith - Faith in Action Newsletter

No spiritual tradition says that hoarding massive amounts of money – especially at the cost of many lives lost – is a good thing. In fact, as people of faith, we are called to take a stand in the face of greed and injustice. That’s why GreenFaith continues to take bold action to demand that the finance industry stop investing in oil, gas, and coal – the extraction and burning of which continues to destroy communities and warm the earth to alarming degrees.

In this newsletter, you’ll find many opportunities in the next few weeks to support the ongoing climate finance work of GreenFaith and our partners: banks, asset managers, in person and online, in prayer and song!

Don’t forget to register for No Faith in Fossil Fuels: A Climate Finance Summit where we’ll dive more deeply into faith, finance, and climate!

In faith,

Rev. Chelsea MacMillan, Climate Finance Campaign Organizer

P.S. This newsletter is intended for people in the United States (US). If you are not in the US, please click here to update your information with us. Thank you!

Spiritual Grounding

Rooting In Spirit Together

April 18 - 5pm PT / 6 MT / 7 CT / 8 ET

Before we launch into multiple actions (beginning April 19) to put moral pressure on financial institutions that are actively financing the climate crisis, let’s first root ourselves in our faith and spirituality as the foundations from which we rise. We’ll share a song, some silence and then offer up our prayers, blessings, and intentions, for the nonviolent direct action and demonstrations taking place across the country — from New York to San Francisco, Philadelphia to Charlotte. Register Here.

Actions

Tell Vanguard: Stop Investing in Climate Destruction!

April 19 - 9am PT / 10 MT / 11 CT / 12pm ET

While our friends at Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT) bravely hold a faith-rooted, in-person intervention at Vanguard's headquarters, we'll join together online to make calls to the financial giant, urging them to divest from fossil fuels. Join us!

(If you’re near Malvern, PA, and want to join EQAT on the ground that morning, please email chelsea@greenfaith.org.)

Bank Shareholder Meetings Mass Mobilization!

April 24 - In Person: San Francisco, CA + Charlotte, NC + New York, NY
Online: 10:30am PT / 11:30 MT / 12:30pm CT / 1:30 ET

Join GreenFaith and partners in the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition at coordinated actions in front of the headquarters of Bank of America (Charlotte), Citibank (New York City) and Wells Fargo (San Francisco). If you can’t join one of these in person actions, join the virtual action hour to keep up the pressure on banks to stop funding climate disaster!
