WCC NEWS: Creation justice focus of hybrid event at Stockholm +50

The World Council of Churches and International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD) are co-hosting a hybrid event on 2 June at Stockholm+50. Exploring the theme “Climate Action and Water for Life towards Creation Justice!” the event will reflect on the current scenario of the climate emergency and global water crisis which are interconnected and impact each other as well as the sustainability of the earth.

In wide areas across El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua, harvests have been completely destroyed by the drought causing enormous hardship for many thousands of poor subsistence farming families. This event will encourage participating organisations—faith communities as well as other constituencies—to address these pressing ecological concerns and take urgent action,  including actions addressing economic justice issues that are intrinsically connected with eco-justice.

Participants will endeavor to understand the urgency of climate change and the water crisis through a theological and ethical lens. Speakers hope to inspire the audience  by sharing good practices and pledging to take action for  eco-justice by “walking the talk.”

Together, they will come up with a road map for creation and restoration for churches with a call to action to reconcile with nature.

When: 2 June 2022, 14.00-15.30 CEST
