This year’s theme is “Faith, Hope and Love in Action: Towards Justice in Israel Palestine.” In an invitation for people of faith and good will to join the special week of prayer, World Council of Churches (WCC) deputy general secretary Prof. Dr Isabel Apawo Phiri urged people to pray, advocate, and stand in solidarity with people in the Holy Land. “The theme is focused on active hope and the search for light at the end the tunnel to end the occupation, and to bring about justice, equality, and reconciliation,” said Phiri. “During the prayers, written especially for this week, we will draw vision from the Bible stories on hope, faith, and justice.” The WCC will be sharing stories about Palestinian Christians and their efforts to build a better future, Phiri added. “Areas of cooperation will be explored between Palestinian youth and the world’s churches,” she said. “We praise you, God, for urging us to continue to uphold your justice for all the oppressed people, in particular for Palestinians who we join in hope for the end of the occupation of Palestine.” In addition to prayers, a video, and feature stories. A closing webinar will also be shared, offering another opportunity to engage in active hope towards ending the occupation.
