The Presbyterian Church (USA) (PCUSA) has a long history of relationship and engagement with the people of Iran.  Starting in the early 1800s, the church was at work in Iran establishing schools, hospitals, and other institutions serving the Iranian people.  The Synod of Iran was part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) until it gained its independence in 1934, and our relationship has informed our policy and advocacy.  The PCUSA has repeatedly called for diplomatic solutions to the conflicts between the two nations.  And, in 2018 it urged the United States to remain in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or “the Iran Nuclear Deal”, in order to best deal with nuclear proliferation issues.   The PCUSA also spoke out against the crippling US economic sanctions on Iran as ineffective if not counterproductive.

As hopes are rising that the new US administration will rejoin the JCPOA, join us to hear from experts about the current state of negotiations and political dynamics in Washington and the region.   Hear about the history of the relationship between the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the people of Iran as well as how US sanctions are creating troubling humanitarian shortages for the Iranian people.   Learn what you can do to help support US reentry into the nuclear deal!
