Texas Winter Storm Updates from the 10th Episcopal District

Texas Winter Storm Update from 10th Episcopal District

TEXAS WINTER STORMS AND POWER OUTAGES

Start Strong, Stay Strong and Stand Strong!

The Lord has been good to us and we are glad!

On behalf of the presiding elders, clergy and people of the 10th Episcopal District, thank you for the outpouring of love, bottled water, gift cards and donations. Some of our resource partners such as the Red Cross, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Lowe’s have donated water, bleach, clean-up buckets, other gifts and supplies. We have received 150 pallets and several cases of water, totaling 290,500 bottles of water plus, bleach, cleaning buckets, meal kits and boxes of produce, fruit, eggs, meat and non-perishables.

Our 11 AME Church Distribution Centers, in the affected areas, have been very busy distributing water and provisions to their surrounding communities and supplying churches in other city, rural and outlying areas. Thank God for the trucks and truck drivers who came from all across Episcopal Districts 1-11 safely.

The Connectional Women’s Missionary Society donated $10,000 plus 100 $25 gift cards to the Winter Storm Relief Effort. All Episcopal Districts responded including three international Episcopal Districts, the14th, 19th, and 20th, with monetary donations and gift cards.

This is by far not the totality of individuals, companies, and congregations who have been kind enough to support Texas. Letters of gratitude, and we are grateful, are being written to those for whom we have return addresses.

A special thank you to the Texas volunteers, both clergy and lay, who came early in the morning and stayed late in the evening to offload pallets, cleaning supplies, and food. And, they distributed the same. More than 19,000 meal kits and food boxes have been distributed because of big-hearted people. Our WMS and YPD’s have been working hard by sorting, boxing, and distributing supplies. Many volunteers loaded their own trucks and cars to get resources to those in need on the perimeter of urban centers.

Now, this is how you can continue to help:

1. We need gift cards to help families trying to clean up after water damage caused by broken pipes.

2. Donations to help families already struggling under the weight of a global health pandemic.

3. Donations to assist churches with insurance deductibles and resources to repair what insurance companies may or may not provide so that when it is safe, the church is ready for returning worshippers.

4. Send monetary and gift card donations to the 10th Episcopal District, 4347 S. Hampton Rd. Suite 245, Dallas, Texas 75232-1064 with memo line -Winter Storm Relief.

5. Make monetary donations on the Givelify App, Tenth District AME Church, or on Cash App at $tenthdistrictame tag it Winter Storm Relief.

The 10th District rejoices in how you and others have responded to this winter crisis. Many inside and outside our reformation have loved on us in unexpected ways, and yes, we are glad!

AME’s, pray that Texas will continue to Stand Strong! Thank you for your love. If you are looking for ways to support, please do not hesitate to reach back. We can identify for you, areas that need immediate help!

By the Grace of God,

Bishop Vashti McKenzie
Presiding Prelate, 10th Episcopal District
