In an open letter sent March 10 to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, The United Church of Canada joined a wide coalition of Canadian civil society organizations urging Canada to support a World Trade Organization (WTO) proposal ensuring immediate and affordable global access to COVID vaccines.

“The COVID pandemic affects us all. United Church Mission & Service partners are very concerned that it may be years before people in more impoverished countries can access a COVID vaccine, while wealthier countries are now stocking more doses of COVID vaccines than they need for their own populations,” says Patti Talbot, Team Lead for the church’s Global Partnership Program. “Canada must support the WTO waiver proposal to ensure everyone has access to COVID vaccines.”
