Monthly Promos and Creation Care Tips
Water is in the news. Some areas of our country have too much water, and we have seen the terrible, devastating, and deadly flooding that results. Some areas of our country have too little water, and we bear witness to drought and fires sparked by lightning, like the fires decimating the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.
Water is also a part of our theology. Water is at our beginnings as people of faith, out of the watery chaos, God formed all of creation, and “a wind from God swept over the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:2). At the very beginning of our scriptures, water takes on beautiful and significant parts of our understanding of God, creation, and our role as stewards of our world.
Here are two things you can do to care for the Earth’s water. Download this brochure to share with your congregation, encouraging them to break the bottled water habit, and join PEC’s biennial conference, Sacred Creation: Justice Flows Down Like Water, held October 8-11 at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Little Rock, AR.
Our upcoming conference will explore the essential part water plays in our survival on Earth. Despite its apparent abundance, drinkable water remains a scarce and limited resource. Learn more about the theology and importance of water in our lives and our world. Please share this with your communications person for inclusion in your August newsletter or weekly bulletin announcements. (Let us know who your communication person is, and we can deliver this directly to their inbox.) Below is a flyer (click the image to download) that can be used as a bulletin insert. Thank you for being a friend of Presbyterians for Earth Care.
August 2025—Water
Here are ideas to share with your Earth Care Team or congregation to encourage attendance at the PEC Conference, Sacred Creation: Justice Flows Down Like Water, October 8-11, Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Little Rock, AR.
1. Join together to worship and share meals with like-minded advocates, working toward responsible stewardship of God’s creation and deepening relationships with others who do the same work.
2. It’s worth making the trip. Take advantage of affordable lodging at $75 a night, the chance to join a pre-conference trip to Hot Springs National Park and listen to speakers who will cover all aspects of water, including conservation, management, spiritual practices, and more.
3. Listen to speakers who will ignite conversation, exchange ideas with fellow attendees, and finally meet in person those you’ve only connected with on Zoom.
4. Collaborate on shared interests during meals, Q&A sessions, and conference activities.
5. Take advantage of opportunities to connect with nature through hikes and bird walks, prioritizing in-person community over Zoom convenience to explore creation justice.
6. Meet and build relationships with people doing the same work as you, and reconnect with long-time friends in person.
7. Enjoy live contra dancing with a nationally renowned caller and live musicians!
8. Pick up snappy new PEC water bottle stickers.
9. Honor God’s creation as you spend time in God’s creation.
10. Do something positive for the future of your children and grandchildren.
(Be sure to sign up for our August 19th Webinar, Living Waters for the World, Kendall Cox, and learn about ways to conserve and not pollute the world’s water supplies — see below for registration!)
