In times such as these, we are called to build a future we believe in; we hope you’ll join us on July 24th.
------------------------------ Circle News: We’re thrilled to welcome Montclair, NJ’s Interfaith Climate Action (ICA) as a new GreenFaith Affiliate!
Interfaith Climate Action was launched in January 2024, when three local congregations came together to amplify their climate efforts. The congregations’ Green Teams met over a potluck dinner, sparking a wave of ideas, energy, and enthusiasm. ICA’s first event, Clean Energy Now! An Interfaith Climate March from Grief to Hope, was inspired by a GreenFaith action in Charlotte, NC. Blending ritual, song, prayer, and art, the event guided participants from lamentation to a hopeful vision for a livable future. More than 100 people marched in the midst of a scorching heatwave. Their collective call to action was clear: support clean energy legislation. Throughout the summer, the group gathered over 400 signed postcards, which a multifaith clergy delegation delivered to State Senator John McKeon, a key environmental champion in New Jersey. Following the 2024 election of a climate denier to the White House, ICA organized a powerful Interfaith Climate Vigil—another GreenFaith-inspired action. The vigil provided space to process grief and anger, while deepening communal resilience. The call to action focused on stopping the construction of a proposed fourth gas plant in the overburdened Environmental Justice community of Newark, NJ. Participants sent postcards urging Governor Murphy to oppose the project. Looking ahead, ICA is collaborating with local faith communities, climate groups, and the Township of Montclair to organize a two-day Sun Day event on September 20–21.
