Exclusive Update from MBF's Haiti Country Coordinator

MBF Friends & Family,

Paul-Nise Stinfil, our Haiti country coordinator who lives with her family in Léogâne Haiti, recently sent us the following personal emergency update on the unfolding crisis she is seeing as it moves closer to Hôpital Sainte Croix (HSC), Darbonne Maternal & Child Health Clinic, and FSIL Nursing School – healthcare partners that you support. Please take this time to read the latest developments she submitted and continue to pray for God’s protection over the people of Haiti during this time.

If after reading the update, you would wish to help with the growing needs, please consider a monthly or one time donation at mbf.org/give to ensure continued emergency support. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of refugees and local community members who rely solely on these facilities for their healthcare needs.

Let's stand together in support of Léogâne. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.

With blessings and gratitude,

E. Andrew Mayo
President and CEO
On the night of May 10, the gangsters took control of Gressier. Léogâne is about 12 Km from Gressier. They burned cars and other things they found in space. They burned schools and houses. They robbed precious things and phones of the inhabitants of the area. The gang’s invasion of Gressier causes a big panic in the population of both Gressier and Léogâne. Until now, we have not been able to confirm the presence of gangsters in Léogâne. However, many refugees come to Léogâne, and they are everywhere. Most of them live now in the parks and gas stations. We do not know who they are. Some people here in Léogâne pack their important papers and other stuff to be ready in case they must run out.

Darbonne Maternity Clinic Impact
In the middle of the day on May 16, the population of Darbonne ran in all directions because they saw some armed people. One of the students from the Episcopal school who has heart issues had to been seen by the physician of the Clinic.

HSC Hospital Status
The HSC employees who live in Gressier do not go to work. Wanda, who is a nurse, is one of HSC’s employees who had to leave Gressier to move to another area with her husband and 3 kids. Additionally, now, access to Port-au-Prince is completely blocked, and that will continue to affect the hospital because to buy some medical supplies and pharmaceuticals, they need to travel to Port-au-Prince. In addition to that, when a police officer finds a sick person or a pregnant woman in labor on the streets, they always bring them to HSC. Now, just imagine this: many refugees from Carrefour-Feuille, Carrefour, Mariani, and Gressier in the streets of Léogâne. HSC will receive more patients who cannot pay the hospital bills.

FSIL Nursing School Status
Since Saturday, May 11, FSIL has been housing some of its employees who live in Gressier and their families. The students from Gressier are afraid for their relatives.

In conclusion, I would say that Haiti needs prayer. Continue to pray for all your ministry partners in Leogane. I trust God and his words: “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.” Psalm 91.14 For that reason, we want him to give us a Gideon. The Bible says, "Gideon said to Him, Oh Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Behold, my clan is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house. The Lord said to him, Surely, I will be with you, and you shall smite the Midianites as one man. Judges 6:14-16.
