Dear Valued Ministry Partners,
On Wednesday, the rising wave of gang violence in Haiti ominously reached an unimaginable threshold at partner hospital, Hôpital Sainte Croix (HSC) in Léogâne, posing a significant threat to the vital services they provide to the community. A local gang member entered the hospital and brutally, horrifically murdered a young man who was a patient right in front of his mother and father. It is unknown whether the victim was a rival gang member or if they had a disagreement of some kind.
As you can imagine, the entire staff is in a state of shock and fear. This alarming development poses a direct threat to the safety and operational continuity of the hospital, which serves as a place of healing for the local community.
Despite the immense challenges, the hospital remains open with stable local leadership because of your support. Foreigners in Haiti are long gone, but because of the dedication of local doctors, nurses, and support staff who run the hospital, HSC has continued seeing and treating patients. The hospital's independence has been a crucial factor in its resilience, allowing it to adapt swiftly and effectively to the current crisis.
However, the situation remains grave, and our brothers and sisters at HSC, FSIL Nursing School, and Darbonne Maternal & Child Health Clinic need our support now more than ever. The violence at their doorsteps is not just a physical barrier but a menacing threat to the peace and security needed to provide critical healthcare services.
We believe this is an emergency relief situation, and our call by God at this time is to simply keep the hospital doors open and the valiant staff employed so that they can serve the community in this war zone. They are on the front lines, and our job is to keep them supplied.
Please accept this call to action. Your participation in ministry has always been the backbone of the mission, and it is urgently needed now to help HSC navigate this tumultuous period. Your prayers for the safety, strength, and resilience of the hospital staff and patients are required. They need them urgently. Additionally, we kindly ask you to consider making a donation to help ensure that HSC can continue to receive the supplies and assistance needed to care for those in dire need.
No matter the size, every contribution will make a significant difference in our collective effort to stand with our partners in Haiti during this critical time. Your generosity will directly support the procurement of essential medical supplies, protective measures for the staff and patients, and the continued operation of life-saving services.
Please visit our website mbf.org/give to make a donation. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those caught in the crossfire of violence, offering hope through our unwavering support and solidarity.
Thank you for your continued faith in the mission and your compassionate response to this urgent appeal. Let us keep the people of Haiti in our prayers, hoping for peace and healing in their land. With blessings and gratitude,
E. Andrew Mayo President and CEO |
