The Christian Recorder - Council of Bishops Calls for an Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza and Israel

The Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church condemns all violence and calls for an end to war as a means to resolving human conflict.  We specifically condemn the recent visible acts of terror being claimed by Hamas and the ongoing and increasing terror unfolding in Gaza.  It is unacceptable to turn all of the people living in Gaza into hostages and casualties of a need for vengeance against Hamas.

We remain in solidarity with Jesus Christ of Nazareth, a Palestinian Jew, and the Prince of Peace. We weep for the suffering being inflicted upon the children of God in the Holy Land and all the earth. We implore those who say they love God also to demonstrate a tangible love for their neighbors. We pray with all suffering and intercede with fervent prayer that God’s truth, justice, mercy, and Shalom will overtake us all.

Bishop Adam J. Richardson, Senior Bishop
Bishop Stafford J. Wicker, President of the Council of Bishops
Bishop Anne Henning Byfield, Chair of the Social Action Commission
Bishop Francine A. Brookins, Chair, Council of Bishops Statement Committee
