Nestor Mayor Moreno, a 59-year-old grandfather of two and a resident of South Carolina, is currently detained at the Stewart Detention Center. He was arrested while attending his regular BI appointment in April 4, 2023 with no given notice, explanation, any information at all even though he was complying with all that was requested of him and has been separated from his family ever since.

Nestor is not a threat to public safety. He is loved by his community and his family.  He has good moral values. He has lived in this country for over 20 years and us, his family are all US Citizens.  Nestor has filed his applications and is not being given a chance. His detention is tearing apart his family and is a threat  to his health because he has an underlying health condition.  I am his daughter and I am desperate for him to be released and to stay in this country that is his home. This has affected my self, my children (Jacob 10 and Jonah 4), my mother (his wife) and my husband because we are all so close and he has always been there for us supporting us in every way and being an awesome grandfather to my children.  He loves to kick the ball with them and go to different parks.  They are his EVERYTHING. Nestor is always the first person to help anyone in need and has always been very dependable.

Stewart Detention Center has come under scrutiny for its poor conditions and mistreatment of detainees. In 2017, the Southern Poverty Law Center filed a lawsuit against the facility for violating detainees’ constitutional rights.  Nestor is diabetic and Stewart Detention center is not providing him with his meds needed to control his sugar levels.  He has been taking his left over meds from Folkston Detention center.  Stewart Detention center is choosing to ignore his health needs.  Nestor is also having shoulder pain to the point where he cannot move his arm and no health assessment has been made and no pain meds provided.  Is this right?

Our family has also attempted to mail letters the past two weeks to give him the support needed during this hard time and he has not received not a single one.

Nestor’s health can be really affected and no one can be contacted by us, his family to get assistance info or with ICE even.  How many other detainees are suffering under these centers and feeling ignored and not treated with the rights that we should ALL have? Stewart Detention center is ran by CoreCivic.

ICE agents have informed detainees that there is no hope for them and to stop wasting money on attorneys and yet the attorneys state that there is hope.

We are faithfully praying for God to help us all during this horrible and unknown situation and all other families and detainees that are also suffering through this.

Detaining Nestor serves no purpose other than to cause harm to him and his loved ones. We urge ICE to release Nestor Mayor Moreno from Stewart Detention Center immediately so that he can reunite with his family and return to being an active member of society.  WE NEED HIM BACK AND HEALTHY!!
