Americans are outraged at skyrocketing egg prices. This year egg prices reached an all time high of an average of $4.25 a dozen. It comes at a time when families across the country are already taking a hit at the grocery store register.

While many in the egg industry point to a recent outbreak of bird flu and inflation, reporters and farm advocates are looking into possible price gouging and collusion.

The farmer-led advocacy group Farm Action wrote about these concerns in a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), stating:“The real culprit behind this 138 percent hike in the price of a carton of eggs appears to be a collusive scheme among industry leaders to turn inflationary conditions and an avian flu outbreak into an opportunity to extract egregious profits reaching as high as 40 percent.”

No matter the reason, Americans are looking for relief to be able to afford to put food on the table. It’s one reason Senator Jack Reed is calling for the FTC to investigate soaring egg prices. If you agree and believe it’s time to hold the egg industry accountable, sign and share the petition today calling on the FTC to open an investigation.
