Join our Matching Challenge for Earth Care

Blessed are the restorers of land and community,
for they shall be called children of God.

The Beatitudes adapted by Gary Nabhan

Dear Presbyterians for Earth Care Community,

I’m going to jump right to it: the programming and advocacy that PEC does on behalf of God’s creation is in jeopardy, and we need your help. The vital work we are called to do—the work you have supported, prayed for, and participated in for three decades—is needed now more than ever. Continuing as the standard-bearer for our denomination’s creation care efforts inside and outside the church cannot go on without renewed and significant financial support. Defunding of environmental work is occurring nationally, but scripture gives us a mandate to care for creation, along with a moral and ethical responsibility to stand with and restore God’s beautiful handiwork.

Thanks to a generous donor, we now have a matching challenge given in honor of their five grandchildren. When you double your pledge, that increased amount will be matched—up to $5,000—effectively tripling your gift.

Our donor shared, “We are doing this in honor of our five grandkids. If we don’t have a world, they won’t either.”

At our recent PEC conference, which was an amazing amalgamation of energy, ideas, community, and faith, James and Joyce Skeet of New Mexico Spirit Farm reminded us that we are all indigenous to this Earth—that we belong to it and are deeply connected to creation. Though colonization and modern life have distanced us from that truth, we can reclaim it by returning to our hearts, nurturing kinship, and listening to the Spirit and the Earth. This spirit of reconnection, experienced so powerfully at the conference, is what PEC works to cultivate year-round. The need for eco-justice action in our denomination and our world has never been greater.

PEC has worked to live out the call for eco-justice for the last 30 years. Through your generous support, PEC helps Presbyterians around the world connect, equip, and inspire one another to care for creation in community. Together, we:

  •       Host monthly webinars and maintain an expanding library of recorded resources

  •       Offer bilingual Advent and Lenten devotionals and other worship tools

  •       Lead a nationwide Zoom Bible study on God’s call to steward creation

  •       Provide monthly “creation care tips” for church bulletins and newsletters

  •       Gather for a conference that renews and equips our community

  •       Support young adult leadership through CANOPY (Creation Action Network of Presbyterian Young Adults)

  •       Advocate at all levels of church and government for faithful creation justice

Your gifts make all this possible. As a nonprofit, PEC relies on the generosity of individuals, congregations, and organizations who share this calling. Please prayerfully consider making a generous gift today. Your support helps PEC continue to lead our denomination toward thoughtful, sustainable, and joyful ways of living on this planet. You can make your tax-deductible gift a one-time or monthly donation—or use your contribution as an alternative gift for someone who loves the earth as much as you.

Give online through our website: https://presbyearthcare.org/giving/
Or mail a check to P.O. Box 8041, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Thank you for your partnership, your prayers, and your care for God’s remarkable world.

In faith and gratitude,

Rev. M. Courtenay Willcox, on behalf of the PEC Steering Committee: Eileen Best, Matthew Davis, Mark Eakin, Sam Hamilton-Poore, Mindy Hidenfelter (Coordinator), Jane Laping, Sarah Mayer, Jo Randolph, Matthias Peterson-Brandt, Shannan Vance-Ocampo, Consuelo Ochoa de Walker, and Derrick Weston
