The university is about to mark one year since becoming a “Blue University,” or an institution that officially recognizes water and sanitation as a human right, promotes public water and wastewater services, and phases out the sale of bottled water at municipal events. During his visit, Suna engaged with doctoral students of Theology and faculty members, including Fr Dr Elias Wolff, a key figure in the university’s ongoing journey as Blue University. "The transformation at Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná is not just a symbolic victory; it reflects a deep institutional commitment to water justice," said Suna. "The establishment of the Water Club and the ongoing work to phase out bottled water across the campus are inspiring examples of how academic institutions can lead by example in promoting sustainable practices." The Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná’s commitment extends beyond its campus. Through initiatives like "Lab Clima," the university is actively involved in environmental efforts, such as restoring the heavily-polluted Rio Belém. This project is a collaborative effort involving students, faculty, and local communities, demonstrating collective dedication to climate justice and community engagement.
