GreenFaith - Did you see this?

#Stop GulfLink

Can you take a few minutes today to sign and share this Multi-Faith or Christian public comment letter to the US Maritime Administration against the proposed Texas GulfLink deepwater export project?

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and have dedicated the last 12 years to being in solidarity with communities living in the shadows of the massive petrochemical facilities responsible for climate change and environmental injustice.

I remember a colleague and friend joking 8 years ago that “we’ll be playing whack-a-mole against the fossil fuel industry for the rest of our lives”. This still rings true today — we just celebrated a major court victory against LNG in the Brownsville TX area, but the work hasn’t slowed down. We need to keep momentum going strong to stop the proposed Texas GulfLink deepwater export terminal proposed for Brazoria County. If approved, the GulfLink project would have capacity to export 1,000,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Please sign one or both of these faith letters to the Maritime Administration for us to submit in the public comment record (due Aug. 30):

You can also submit a public comment directly.

Texas GulfLink is projected to cause 3.8 billion metric tons of climate-warming pollution throughout its 30-year lifetime. What happens in Texas affects the entire planet – and for us to be successful down here in Texas, we need nationwide support and solidarity!

Organizing for climate justice in the heart of oil country is profoundly exhausting and difficult work that requires deep spiritual resolve and fortitude. We need to know that we're not alone. Thank you so much for taking this quick and important step today – and for showing loving compassion for your Gulf South neighbors for the long haul.

In faith,
