Presbyterians for Earth Care - Transportation Webinar TONIGHT, Register for Earth Care Conference

TONIGHT!

Travel Choices and Our Future

A Transportation Webinar

Presenter: Scott Gregory Minos, U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, Washington D.C.

Date: Thursday, August 24th

Time: 7:30 pm EDT (6:30 CDT, 5:30 MDT, 4:30 PDT)

What is the most ecological choice for transportation?

For long distances, is it flying, traveling by car, traveling by hybrid, traveling by EV, traveling by motorcycle?

Which produces the most greenhouse gas emissions? Which produces the least? What factors contribute to a decision on transportation choices? When can the United States expect to have a mas transportation system available nationwide?

This webinar on transportation will cover the answers to these questions and more.  Those who register for the webinar will be asked to use the Cool Climate Calculator in advance to calculate typical travel distances, including hypothetical travel from home to the September PEC National Conference at Massanetta Springs Camp & Conference Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Coordinator of PCUSA’s Presbyterian Hunger Program, Rev. Rebecca Barnes, will join the webinar to provide information about the carbon offset option by the Presbyterian Tree Fund.

“The Climate Crisis & Empowering Hope” is our theme for our 2023 national conference. The conference will deal with the greatest moral issue of the day and practical ways that our faith can guide us to act for creation care. We will gather in person in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and at three satellite locations (California, Arkansas and Minnesota) and we will also stream all presentations online. We will learn from top church leaders, gifted biblical and theological teachers, activists, pastors, and one another. This important conference will make a difference for God’s creation and the Church.

Here are our TOP 10 REASONS to attend the conference in-person at Massanetta Springs in Harrisonburg, VA or one of our satellite locations in  Berkeley, CA, Minneapolis, MN, or Little Rock, AR:

  1. catch up with old friends

  2. make new friends

  3. build relationships with unlikely partners

  4. interact with unknown like-minded persons

  5. experience stimulating conversations over meals

  6. return to high school and find out if you can still make it to class on time

  7. read body language when speaking or listening

  8. hear different perspectives on subjects that you care about

  9. ask questions of speakers after presentations

  10. meet PC(USA) staff and other professionals

  11. talk casually with PEC steering committee and members

Of course, attending the conference VIRTUALLY is also a great option for those who prefer to do so!

Whichever method of participation you choose, please register for the conference TODAY!  Registration for some of our in-person locations closes on September 1.
