GreenFaith - It’s time to march to end fossil fuels!

I never thought I’d see a summer like this one. From the fires in Hawaii to smoke blanketing the east coast and midwest to severe flooding in Vermont and California, we’ve been hit with just about everything. And hurricane season is just getting started.

The climate crisis is hitting home everywhere. But as I like to say, action is the best antidote for despair, and we have an amazing opportunity to show the power of our movement and call for an end to fossil fuels!

Join GreenFaith and hundreds of people of faith at the March to End Fossil Fuels on Sept 17th* in New York City!

We know that these climate impacts don’t just happen. They’re not caused by God- they’re caused by the burning of fossil fuels which quickly is warming our planet. The fossil fuel companies – who lied to the public for decades about the science of climate change – are the ones to blame. And we need to make sure that our government is holding them accountable instead of continuing to let them make windfall profits and buy off our political decision makers.

That’s why we’re mobilizing a huge faith contingent in the streets on September 17th*, with tens of thousands of others, calling on President Biden to stop the fossil fuel companies from polluting our planet.

Right now, the US is the biggest extractor of fossil fuels on the planet. Our government continues to approve fossil fuel projects from pipelines to new drilling in Alaska. This is unacceptable! That’s why, in the leadup to the UN Climate Ambition summit in September, we’re calling on President Biden to be a real climate leader, and stop fossil fuels!

In the faith hub, we will begin gathering at 11:30am for multi-faith worship programs. Then we will have some fellowship time together before the March to End Fossil Fuels begins at 1:00pm.

Please join me in the Faith Hub of the March to End Fossil Fuels!

I’ll see you there.

In solidarity,

Jim Gordon
GreenFaith US - New York Organizer

*We recognize and regret that this mobilization is planned for the second day of Rosh Hashanah. There were a number of factors that led the mobilization coordinators to choose this date, and they did not make this decision lightly. We deeply respect Jewish communities have different relationships with protest and social action during the High Holidays. We honor and affirm that many Jewish communities and organizations will be praying at this time and celebrate their observance. There will also be a Jewish delegation participating in the March to End Fossil Fuels - if you are Jewish and would like more information about joining this delegation, contact Noa Gordon-Guterman, noa@dayenu.org
