The staff at the Sevan Children’s Rehabilitation Center ask Davit to make a wish as he blows out his candles for his seventh birthday. As he beams with joy, Davit says that his wishes have already come true …

Davit is a patient with cerebral palsy at the center. When Davit started therapy at the center, he had never attended school because of his disabilities. He lacked balance and coordination, couldn’t walk independently, had a speech disorder and his behavior was challenging. With caring support from staff along with Davit’s hard work, he can now move independently, go up and down stairs and control his movements. He can also identify colors and numbers. Because of his achievements, David started attending school and has been able to communicate and make friends. He has achieved many victories, but still has obstacles to overcome. JMP is there for him with open doors and open arms.

The Children’s Rehabilitation Center benefits 130 children with disabilities from Sevan and 10 surrounding villages. It offers hope and resources to families where they previously had none, and generous contributions have made it possible! I wish you could witness the smiles on the children’s faces and feel the immeasurable joy and gratitude their parents feel each time they see their children improve, both physically and emotionally. Support means that kids with disabilities in rural Armenia can have outpatient therapy with a full spectrum of services such as speech, art, music, academic, occupational, psychological and medical services.

But sadly, they still need your help. The state only covers sessions for six months per child each year. As most of the parents are facing economic hardship, they cannot afford to pay the rest, which means that as soon as a child progresses, therapy is put on hold until the following year. We work with parents to continue doing therapy at home, but it does not have the same outcome, and children ultimately regress. With your help, JMP can assist in providing these children with uninterrupted services so they can continue their progress. Please consider making a gift to the Children’s Rehabilitation Center. No gift is too small. Your help brings hope to those who need it most.

“Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

Spreading the Vision of Matthew 25 across the Church

The PC(USA) believes that we are called to serve Jesus by contributing to the well-being of the most vulnerable in all societies – rural and urban, small and large, young and not-so-young. From affordable housing to community gardens to equitable educational and employment opportunities to healing from addiction and mental illness to enacting policy change – there is not just one way to be a part of the Matthew 25 movement.
