Deputy Frankel is a highly decorated officer for Washoe County NV that specialized in protecting children from sexual predators. While she was on duty on June 25, 2020 her vehicle was hit by a drunk driver which resulted in significant injuries including neuro trauma. The 16-year veteran was taken to the ER and a Worker’s Comp claim was generated. After months of delays in the processing of her claim and lack of approval for specialized medical care, Deputy Frankel was diagnosed with Dystonia, a painful and life altering condition which causes muscles in the body to involuntarily contract severely impacting quality of life. Although, Deputy Frankel won her Worker’s Comp case, she still has not received treatment for her Dystonia which is due largely in part to the privatization of the Worker’s Comp System in NV and the removal of the "bad faith clause" which prevents carriers from being sued or liable for not acting in a timely manner on an open claim. Because of the removal of the "bad faith clause" the system in Nevada has become backlogged with injured parties that cannot get approval for medical care or financial relief. While Deputy Frankel was fighting her case, she was on leave without pay and required to pay her own medical coverage which was upwards of $900 every two weeks! This is unconscionable. Despite the lack of care making her Dystonia permanent, Kimberly decided she would not let other injured parties suffer her same fate and helped spearhead a bill, NV SB 274, which would help insure this would not happen to others again. We ask that you sign this petition so that we can carry these signatures forward to bolster Public support for the changes and to counter the lobbying of the insurance companies and special interests to stop this action. We need your Signatures NOW as this bill has passed the Senate as of 5/25/23 but still needs to pass the Assembly and be signed by the Governor to go into effect.
