Change.org - New Jersey teachers

Teachers and students everywhere want to get back to normal. Virtual learning is growing old, but in-person learning remains unsafe. In New Jersey, teachers and school staff have not been prioritized to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Petition starter Joseph knows vaccinating teachers and staff will help keep everyone safe. Add your name to call for NJ teachers and staff to receive immediate access to the vaccine.

Give NJ Teachers and school staff immediate access to the COVID-19 vaccine

There’s really no explanation needed for the purpose of this petition.  COVID-19 has put a strain on every person and every industry.  It will take time for all to heal from the pandemic, but what is avoidable is the stress COVID has had on the education world.  The impact of virtual learning, staffing issues, contact tracing efforts, etc., has exhausted students, parents and all school staff.  The faster the teachers can get in the classroom full-time, with the safety and confidence they deserve, the faster our kids can get back to their norm; learn, develop, and strive.  The faster teachers can get back in the classroom, the faster the stress of parents not knowing what daycare will look like tomorrow, will end.  The faster teachers can get back in the classroom, the faster school administration can focus on the future and direction of their districts and not put all their efforts into whether or not tomorrow is in-person or remote.

To reiterate my opening line, there was no explanation needed.  Everything I just listed is already known and not news to anybody.  So why hasn’t this profession been prioritized?

It’s time the State and leaders in education  figure this out together.

Please show your support to vaccinate our teachers and all school staff ASAP.

Petition is my own as a citizen and does not represent the views or opinions of any Board member or Board of Education in the State of NJ.

Change.org - Rename this school

Two student newspaper reporters uncovered that their Kansas high school, Seaman High, was named after a KKK leader. Fred Seaman was influential in building the KKK in Kansas and held a leadership position known as an “exalted cyclops.” The school board has told the students that if there’s public support, they’ll consider changing the name. Thousands have signed their petition. Add your name to send a message to the school board.

On October 16, 2020, two student journalists published a story revealing that Fred Seaman, the founder of the Seaman School district, was the leader of the Topeka Ku Klux Klan in the mid 1920’s. The school district was unanimously voted to be named after him by the staff and student body when the high school first opened. For decades, a rumor of his involvement in the KKK remained within the district, but it was not proven fact by any particular means and therefore continued to make students of color feel unwelcome throughout the district.

USD 345 named the district after Fred Seaman to honor the work he did starting the district, but that work is overshadowed by his leadership in the Klan. Our movement is working to change the name of the unified school district 345 to an all-inclusive, welcoming name that will represent the district in high honor and welcome students of all races and backgrounds.

The USD 345 school board declared that they would only consider renaming the district if a grassroots movement from the community called for action. This petition will show the district board that we do not want to be affiliated with the KKK in any way. Please, join our movement and take a stand for justice by signing and sharing this petition.

Baby Girl is a 18 month old cub/ sub adult. She is too young to hunt for herself and could slowly & painfully starve.  Baby Girl is the last of a once well known Pride, the Sparta’s. Her beloved Mother, who was very ill,  has gone missing, leaving Baby Girl alone & wasting away. The area has a no interference policy. This is an outdated policy, and many feel it is neglect. Other areas are helping their wildlife when they can. Human’s have decimated the lion population, and this area has benefited from the lions, in particular the Sparta pride, by taking tourist out to view the very lion pride they have now abandoned.  Please help us give Baby Girl the right to life. She is a strong girl who has faced so much already as a young lion. Many of us are willing to donate to help, though we need to be allowed to. If we can help her by providing her with enough nutrition to give her the strength and courage to hunt, we believe can survive. Please sign this petition to help save this young beautiful lioness, she is very precious. This may also be a great chance for the area to make positive changes for fellow lions as well as other wildlife. Thank you!

Change.org - LGBTQ+ rights under attack

Being able to talk to a doctor about treatment shouldn’t be a felony. But in Kansas, lawmakers want to criminalize trans youth and their doctors. Petition starter Alex knows that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. Help Alex send a message to Kansas representatives that trans youth and their doctors aren’t criminals.

Vote NO on HB2210 in the Kansas House of Representatives

If you don’t know, HB2210 was introduced in the house on Wednesday, February 3rd. This bill would make it a level 8 felony for doctors and physicians to prescribe puberty blockers, testosterone to females, estrogen to males, or even to perform surgeries that sterilize, alter or remove body parts on transgender kids under the age of 18.

The House bill now has to go through a committee for discussion, and be voted on.

As much as I wish that I had something personal to say about this, I don’t. I am not trans, but I do have transgender friends who transitioned during high school, and who this would have effected had it been passed back then. This legislation is completely and morally out of place. As I have established in previous posts, gender transition has a positive effect on transgender individuals. There are studies that even show for transgender youth specifically that transitioning has helped improve their mental health and dysphoria. So when I tell you that signing this into law and taking away those opportunities for people is a death threat, that’s exactly what it is, point blank period.

I’ve linked a petition below to ask the House to vote NO on the legislation, and I would implore you to sign it if you are looking to make a change quickly. However, if you have more time on your hands, I would really encourage you to look at the roster linked below of members of the House, find the members for your district, and email/call them about this issue as well. We need to make sure this does not get passed, for the safety of all transitioning children and individuals in Kansas.
