At a time when the planet seems more and more divided, it can be hard to process what one is feeling, let alone speak out about all the troubles in the world, but prayer can serve as comfort and inspiration.
“Make each of us a peacemaker,” the Rev. Jimmie Hawkins prayed at a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) march against gun violence. “Our souls are stirred to act, knowing we never act alone.”
The march was part of last month’s Young Adult Advocacy Conference, one of several activities Compassion, Peace and Justice ministries have been involved in recently. The goal was to encourage college students and others to advocate for what they believe in.
“God has a unique plan and purpose for each of us to speak up and speak out for the faithful discernment of how to care for our communities and our society and our world, and yes, the cosmos,” said the Rev. Shavon Starling-Louis, Co-Moderator of the 225th General Assembly (2022), at the conference. “This divine calling extends to our advocacy work as we are called to be honest advocates for the collective healing of Creation.”
