Hello More Light Family!
Greetings from the 227th General Assembly! On behalf of the board and staff, we want to share our deep gratitude for the love and encouragement so many of you offered at the More Light Presbyterians table in the GA Town Square. Both MLP staff members arrived in Milwaukee with suitcases full of swag, and we are leaving with just one small container remaining! Whether through a sticker, bracelet, pin, or a simple word of encouragement, we give thanks for your visible and joyful support.
We entered this assembly with both hope and trepidation, knowing that several overtures before the General Assembly had the potential to directly impact the lives and belonging of LGBTQIA+ people throughout the church, particularly GEN-09 and CON-10. While we will share a fuller report soon, we are deeply grateful that the assembly acted in ways that continue to affirm the full humanity, dignity, and gifts of our LGBTQIA+ siblings.
We will send our full July newsletter in the coming days, but we wanted to take a moment to express once again how grateful we are for the community we have built together. The work we do through More Light Presbyterians is life-giving and, for many, life-saving. Throughout this assembly, we were reminded that even within the Body of Christ, efforts to dehumanize and diminish LGBTQIA+ lives remain present. In response, we recommit ourselves to the work before us: continuing to shine Christ’s light and share Christ’s radical love in the world so that all of God’s beloved creation may experience flourishing and liberation.
We will be in touch very soon with updates about what’s ahead in July and throughout the rest of the summer. In the meantime, be sure to register for our July 6 More Light Monday Conversation, “Uprooting Shame: Discussing Conversion Practices,” with Dr. Lucas Wilson.
With gratitude and hope,
Jesy and Claudia
