Happy Pride, y’all!!!
As the month comes to an end, we honor that Pride is a celebration of who we are and who we were created to be. Pride is joy in the midst of oppression and struggle. Pride is painting a gray world with colors that reflect our diversity. And just as we know that Pride started with a riot, we know that Pride is also holy rage!
During the More Light Presbyterians’ Pride Service, Rev. Shanea Leonard reminded us that Jesus, with a whip and flipping tables, had fire in his belly and was enraged by the desecration of the temple. Just as it was with Christ, there is a time and place for holy rage: The time is now. We can’t afford to remain silent or stagnant. We are called to flip tables. We can’t be bystanders in the destruction of our communities.
In Rev. Leonard’s words: “If we are willing to call ourselves Christ-like Christians, then we can no longer sit silently and blindly in our pews. We are called to this! Because prayer, without presence, is hollow. And welcome, without affirmation, is a lie. And faith without feet is futile. We are called to be prophets! Not just performers.”
More Light Presbyterians has been flipping tables for 50 years—and not without cost. Speaking up to injustice is risky business. But it is our business. We are called to this! And you can help.
With your prayers.
