As you know, a key component in the struggle for climate justice is finance. Banks and asset managers hold massive power to stop the climate crisis.
Financial institutions CAN provide climate-safe products. Most people don't want their retirement funds destroying the planet. If banks fall in line, it will be a game-changer.
GreenFaith organizers are increasing the pressure on banks and asset managers to stop funding the climate crisis. Here are some of the actions we did this year around climate finance. Your support made it possible.
Faith leaders burned fake money at JP Morgan Chase Bank HQ in NYC. This powerful symbolic action led by leaders from 5 different faiths, was our critique of valuing profit over life on this planet and a lament for the earth. Watch the video here.
We called out one of the world’s largest asset managers at an investment manager’s conference. During a panel discussion featuring a Vanguard executive, two staff stood up and demanded that they stop funding fossil fuels. “I’m a mother and a minister and I’m frightened about what is happening,” said Rev. Amy Brooks to the Vanguard VP. “Aren't you?” Check out the video.
We held weekly protests at bank and asset manager headquarters: Every week, GreenFaith partnered with our friends at Mindful Rebels to hold public meditation sit-ins outside of both BlackRock and Chase headquarters in NYC. We also held monthly actions, called Earth Witness Wednesdays, outside of Bank of America Headquarters in Charlotte, NC, bringing in dozens of new people to our movement and showing that as people of faith, we won’t stand for fossil fuel financiers to continue to fund destruction.
I love GreenFaith because we’re not afraid to stand up faithfully and courageously for a better world. Please contribute to our work now!
A better world is possible,
Rose and the GreenFaith Digital Team
P.S. Your contribution is essential. Please give today.
