Prayers to End Hunger: Racial Equity

Prayers to End Hunger

In the books of Ephesians, 1 Corinthians, and Romans, God has an expectation for the church to operate as one united body. But racism has undermined this. This sin not only hurts God, but also increases hunger among God’s people. Open your hearts to receive this prayer for racial equity:
Lord, help us to create an atmosphere here on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us the strength to look inwardly.

We humbly ask you to help us reflect on our own actions that maintain or worsen racism and prevent us from working as one united body.

Help us to disrupt racism like you encouraged the disciples to do when you chose not only to cross through, but also to intentionally stop in, Samaria instead of avoiding it like many Jews did at that time (John 4:5-6).

Show us our hearts, God.

And give us the wisdom, humility, and boldness to do what you have called us to do.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
This prayer for racial equity was written by Marlysa Gamblin, domestic policy advisor at Bread for the World Institute. To reflect more on how God wants to transform our hearts, review the Biblical Study Guide on Race.
