Medical Benevolence Foundation - Stand with Haiti's Healthcare Heroes

MBF Friends & Family,

As we are all getting ready for a New Years celebration tonight, I’m writing to you with both a heavy heart and an unwavering hope for 2025. We just learned today that earlier this month, Bernard Mevs Hospital, a cornerstone of healthcare in Port-au-Prince, was set ablaze by gangs. This hospital, known for its partnership with Miami-based Project Medishare and its pioneering work in trauma and critical care, has been a lifeline for so many Haitians.

Thankfully, patients and staff were safely evacuated days before the attack, but the damage is catastrophic. Millions of dollars in essential, life-saving equipment—including CT scanners, a brand-new 3D X-ray imaging machine, and a fully equipped pediatric ward—were destroyed. This loss is not just a tragedy for the hospital; it’s a devastating blow to Haiti’s already fragile healthcare system.

The political situation in Haiti is deeply troubling. Gangs now control vast parts of the country, including key areas of Port-au-Prince. Violence has surged to unimaginable levels, with gangs targeting institutions that serve as pillars of hope and stability. Even Haiti’s General Hospital, the largest public healthcare facility, remains closed following coordinated gang attacks. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières has been forced to operate at a reduced capacity after attacks on its staff.

Despite the presence of Kenyan police sent to assist, the situation remains volatile. Yet amidst this chaos, God’s blessings are evident. Our partners Hospital St. CroixFSIL Nursing School, and the Darbonne Maternity Clinic in Léogâne remain open, serving as sanctuaries of healing and hope. Their resilience is nothing short of miraculous!

The people of Haiti face overwhelming challenges. They endure extreme poverty, food insecurity, and now, an even more inaccessible healthcare system. Your support has made it possible for the Medical Benevolence Foundation to sustain vital healthcare ministries during these turbulent times. But the needs are growing.

As we reflect on the season of giving, I ask you to consider the impact your generosity can have. By giving today, you help us:

  • Rebuild and re-equip facilities to restore healthcare access.
  • Provide essential supplies and resources to our partners on the ground.
  • Ensure the safety and sustainability of critical ministries like FSIL Nursing School and Hospital St. Croix.

The people of Haiti need us now more than ever. Together, we can stand in the gap, offering hope to those who feel forgotten.

Please join us in prayer for Haiti, and if you’re able, make a gift today to support this urgent work.
