The Christian Recorder - Hurricane Beryl Updates and Assistance Request from the 16th Episcopal District

Dear A.M.E. Church Family:

Grace and Peace from the Lord Jesus Christ be multiplied unto you!

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the Sixteenth Episcopal District acknowledges damages, dislocations, and disruptions to congregations and congregants within the boundaries of the district. Many of you reached out
to us as the hurricane was forming to see how you could be of assistance. In the aftermath of the storm it is clear how people of our family have been adversely affected.

The country of Grenada in the Windward Islands Annual Conference, along with the Jamaica Annual Conference reported the most challenges. Hickman Temple in Grenada along with some of the members has structural damages that need repairing so that those who occupy the spaces will do so safely. The words from the Jamaica Council of Churches on July 6, 2024, speak of the travesty that many churches and members are experiencing at this moment, “Hurricane Beryl barreled past our island and battered the nation with boisterous winds and rain, but we will not be beaten or buried by despair." Attached are pictures from those who are able to report while others are still praying for connectivity in order to tell their story.

The Sixteenth Episcopal District is preparing to assist as best we can with the resources that are available to us
the churches and parishioners to begin rebuilding from the storm. If you or any agencies you may know of
wish to be a part of this rebuild, there are multiple ways to assist:
Sixteenth Episcopal District AMEC

  • Jamaica Annual Conference, Presiding Elder Shawin Reynolds, Pedro Plains District (WhatsApp 876-383-8730) and Presiding Elder Dr. Carol Brown Clarke, Blue Mountain District (WhatsApp 876-776-7812)

Thank you in advance for your continued prayers. Any assistance you give helps your brothers and sisters not to lose hope in this time of devastation. You may reach me at bishopzanders140@gmail.com if you have further questions.

Faith, Hope, and Love
