GreenFaith - Sacred Planet, Stained Profits report

Today, Greenfaith is releasing our new report entitled Sacred Planet, Stained Profits. The report makes the case for why religious institutions must pressure banks to phase out their financing for fossil fuels while upscaling climate solutions.

READ THE REPORT

We are releasing the report as part of the Summer of Heat, a series of actions designed to pressure Citibank, the world's largest bank financer of fossil fuels since the Paris Climate Agreement.

On August 1st, GreenFaith is hosting an online action hour, as well as a family-friendly, multi-faith action in New York City at Citi headquarters.

Sacred Planet, Stained Profits presents a review and critique of the frightening record of major Banks, which have provided close to $7 trillion in financing for fossil fuels since the Paris Agreement. The report also shares teachings from different religions about the ethical use of money, provides examples of how religious groups have played an important role in past campaigns focused on the finance sector, and identifies ways for religious groups to get involved. Read the report here.

The report spotlights the undeniable reality that the conduct of Citi and other major banks on the climate crisis is profoundly immoral. A better future is possible. Banks must become part of the solution rather than worsening the problem.

Faith communities have a vital role to play. This report will help us all understand the issue and raise our voices on behalf of people and the planet alike.

In steadfast faith,

Rev. Fletcher Harper
Executive Director

P.S. Please join us on August 1st for an online action hour or the family-friendly, multi-faith action in New York City at Citi headquarters!
