At the beginning of the year, the Trump Administration, through its work spearheaded by Elon Musk, illegally cut off funds to USAID, which was providing critical food and medical care to people around the world. This cruel act has had immediate consequences for the most vulnerable and poorest communities in the world. People, through no fault of their own, are now going hungry and being exposed to devastating illness. Now, Trump is pushing to make these cuts permanent. Proverbs 21:13 says, “whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.” We must make the cry of the poor so loud that our Congress can no longer ignore it. We already have so much pain and suffering to address in the lives affected by the illegal cuts. Congress cannot add more to the suffering. Tell Congress to reject Trump’s budget request and restore funding to USAID! The money needed to restore the medicine and food people critically need would be a fraction of our budget, but these decisions must not be made solely by the logic of dollars and cents. We must also consider the impact on our moral convictions as we witness the suffering of others and turn a blind eye. Tell Congress to reject Trump’s morally bankrupt request to make cuts to USAID permanent! Please, join us now and demand that Congress restore USAID funding. In this moment of precarity for everyone, we cannot stand aside and allow hunger, suffering, and disease to spread without raising our voices. |
