Presbyterian Justice & Peace - Continuing the mission of socially responsible investing
The Office of Faith-Based Investing and Corporate Engagement staffs the Committee on Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). MRTI implements the General Assembly’s policies on socially responsible investing (also called faith-based investing) by engaging corporations in which the church’s investing entities own stock. While under more normal circumstances we’d be preparing for the upcoming General Assembly, due to the global pandemic, MRTI business will not be considered by the 224th General Assembly. But the committee's work continues. Learn more about MRTI’s response to this decision and other news from our office.
Changes to the 224th General Assembly will delay MRTI's divestment recommendations
Despite the announced delay to much of the 224th General Assembly's business, including MRTI’s recommendation, MRTI will continue corporate engagement and monitoring companies. Read more about MRTI's reaction to the GA changes in this story, which also includes a link to the full statement from MRTI leadership.
MRTI calls on companies to support workers during global health crisis
MRTI signed-on to an investor statement, calling on companies to support workers during the COVID-19 crisis. Additionally, staff are participating in a coalition of faith-based investors seeking engagement with mid-sized retailers to discuss how they are treating their employees during this pandemic. Stay tuned for updates on this initiative.
MRTI released its 2020 Shareholder Resolutions Directory with Proxy Voting Guide
MRTI frames the recommendations through the lens of PC(USA) policies. They revolve around climate change and human rights issues. Read more about the recommendations here.
MRTI bids farewell to outgoing Chair, welcomes new Chair
At the end of June, MRTI will bid farewell to outgoing chair, Joseph Kinard, and welcome chair-elect, Rev. Kerri Allen. MRTI members are so grateful for Joseph’s service to the church and to MRTI and look forward to Kerri’s leadership.
